John Davidson John Davidson


The younger son of William H. Davidson, John was born in 1935 and studied economics at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, graduating in 1957. He joined the Harley-Davidson Motor Company in 1960, working in marketing and sales under his uncle Walter. He became head of the division upon Walter's retirement in 1968. He was named president of The Motor Company in 1973, a post that he held until 1978. He became chairman of the board in 1978, where he remained until 1980. John Davidson remained a key figure in the company until it was bought back from AMF in 1981. At that time, John retired, and his older brother, Willie G., stayed on as the only familyt member to carry the Davidson name into the post-AMF era.
