Ray Price Ray Price

Drag racer.

Ray Price was born in 1937 in Johnston County, North Carolina, and raised on a farm. His first motorcycle was a 1953 Harley-Davidson K. Following a stint in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960, where he learned electronics, Price purchased a 1966 Sportster and entered his first professional meet in 1967. Price earned national recognition in 1969 when he built a Sportster Funny Bike, which was so popular with the fans that it spawned a new racing class. In 1973, he opened his own high-perforance shop, and in 1982 he became a Harley-Davidson dealer. Price has held class national championships with the International Drag Bike Association (1980) and with DragBike (1981). During the 2002 season, he earned his lifetime best ET and top speed. Price plans to continue racing as long as he is enjoying himself. He is a member of the National Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Anamosa, Iowa.
