Vaughn Beals Vaughn Beals

Key player in raising funding to buy the Motor Company back from AMF in 1981.

Vaughn L. Beals, born in Nova Scotia, is a graduate of MIT and spent more than 15 years in the technical side of the aerospace industry. In 1965 he joined Cummins Diesel and shifted from technology to management. Five years later, he left to form his own company in Seattle, manufacturing logging eqipment and then was recruited to join AMF Harley-Davidson as a vice president and group executive for the motorcycle product group. Beals was hired for his style and credibility, which he quickly demonstrated at The Motor Company. Despite the fact he had never ridden a motorcycle until he was 45, he quickly earned the support of dealers and customers and became a key player in raising the funding to buy the company from AMF.
