Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1957, Kenny Tolbert began his amateur racing career at the age of 14. He turned pro and became an Expert in 1983, eventually earning National Number 16. Tolbert built his own racing equipment and signed on with team owner Tex Peel to assist with Ricky Graham's motorcycles. In 1988, Tolbert was hired as an outside contractor to the Harley-Davidson racing department and in that capacity began his long and successful association with Chris Carr. Tolbert-built machines have won more than 50 national races, and he has built and maintained all the motorcycles on which Carr has won his Grand National titles.
